Tiara

Fresian x Nooitgedacht x Warmblood

Tiara is our 2nd Alpha female in the heard and she rules with a stern hoof over all her subjects. She’s a beautiful, gentle and friendly paint mare to meet on the ground and will definitely come for love, cuddles and falling asleep on your shoulder. On her back it is a completely different story though, she loves a challenge and permanently tests her rider with sudden spooks and bursts of enthusiasm. Unfortunately she is currently not available for adoptions and is only ridden by the owner. This beautiful girl is at Woodifields for extra love and cuddles; always remember to bring a treat for boss lady!

Beauty

Fresian x Nooitgedacht

Beauty (yes, he is a male but sometimes acts like a typical mare), is the leader of the boys in the herd. On a trail, he’s the one responsible for keeping every horse in place and with one firm stare, believe me they do fall in line. Usually in the camp Beauty is best left on his own. He prefers company of his own choice and stays far away from any one that looks like work. In the saddle he is one of our most comfortable horses but can be a force to be reckoned with. He loves to run and to show off his good looks, but can have a mind of his own and at this stage is best left for the guides to enjoy.

Crystal

Arabian x Boerperd

The little Alpha female and Lizé’s all time sweetheart. Crystal is our best-of-both-worlds bitless superstar. She can take riders of all experience levels and give them a ride they’ll never forget. Novice riders enjoy this white beauty because of her gentle nature to check up on them before doing anything new. Crystal is also one of the best experienced rider horses as she loves a good canter and especially loves cattle work and exploring new trails. She truly knows no fear and will go the extra mile for her rider, if she thinks they deserve to see her best side. Please take note this sexy girl belongs to Beauty and anyone who disrespects her will get to deal with him(trust me not a good idea) and Lizé, which no human would survive ;).

Midnight

A mare with an attitude fit for a queen, looks that can kill and a baby, that stole all our hearts at first sight. This beautiful girl is one of our new editions to the trails and is perfect for our guides and more experienced riders to enjoy. She can be a little feisty, nothing mean but she is figuring out that she can relax and enjoy group riding without necessarily being in front all the time. Because of this she needs a hand that knows what they want her to do, and are prepared to give her direction and while still giving her the option to find her own way. If you’re looking for a fast yet controlled and very comfortable ride, this is your girl. Recently we’ve tried Western Games with this stunning girl and we think we’ve found her one true love as she moves like she was bred for it. If you’ve ever had an interest in the sport, let us know and maybe you can take her on a test run some time in the near future.

Honey

Fresian x Nooitgedacht

Honey is our very own female version of the well known Spirit movie. She is an absolute darling under the saddle and will take care of her rider as long as they take care of her. Just like in the movie, Honey chooses who she spends time with and we will respect her wishes. Honey is an old trooper in our herd and because of this, knows the trails quite well – keep an eye on this mare, she might just take you on a calm and easy shortcut ride of her own making;) She is a safe and reliable mare for novice to experienced riders but will mostly be used on our shorter trails due to a medical condition(Roarers). We’d like to assure our guests that riding her is not harming her in any way and that she absolutely loves every part of the trails.

Elzé

Percheron x Lippizaner

Mom to our youngster, Kira(no longer in our care but now performing like a champ at a riding school in George), Elzé is the big momma bear of the group and is the living definition of a gentle giant. She is an absolute softy and would much rather prefer a cuddle over work. Recently though, she has a new found love for adventure and will either be soft and gentle for beginner riders or she’ll show her spunk and muscle for those riders that are prepared to wake her up and ask for more than just a walk and occasional trot. She might sometimes need a friendly yet firm reminder that we are on a trail and not returning home or taking a picnic on route. Due to her Percheron blood she is a weight carrier and can take riders up to 135kg on short trail rides.

Impala

If you like a man with attitude yet a heart of gold, then this is your ride. Impala is a well trained, very sensible and handsome gentleman that we’ve welcomed to our team. This black beauty is best of both worlds as he’s a master under the saddle but can do just as well under harness in the cart. We bought this handsome fellow a couple of months after Midnight’s beautiful surprise baby, Thornado, in search of a spunky weight carrier and little did we know at the time that this was dad. Welcome, gentle Impi to your herd and though you can’t have any more surprises up your sleeve with the mares, you can definitely still charm any guest that has the privilege to enjoy your amazing strides and paces.

Moya

Morgan x Arabian

Moya being our first Morgan have shocked us all with her unbelievable strength, brave personality and the most caring soul we know. She is our gentlest and most relaxed mare in the Woodifields herd and wouldn’t even consider hurting a fly. Sit back, relax and enjoy our scenic trails with this stunning mare that’ll take care of her rider whether you are experienced or novice while still giving you the option to wake her up and enjoy the power this little mare has under her hood. With 3 very comfortable paces and a level headed mind, adults and kids will feel like their sitting in a rocking chair on a trail they’ll never forget.

Hubble Bubble

Anglo-Arab

“I’m sexy and I know it” is Hubble’s motto and riding trails is his game. Hubble is an absolute stunning boy, safe for riders of all ages and levels of experience. With a trot like only an Arab can do and a slow canter like none of our other boys and girls he is definitely a must for even experienced riders. This handsome boy definitely has a future in DRASA or Western(lease options available) and will make his rider proud while doing it. He’s an absolute softy in the camp but prefers company of his own liking and is best left alone when asked with pinned back ears. Hubble is part of our team at Woodifields and is a perfect candidate for a rider to take to shows and impress the judges without working too hard.

Chayim

Boerperd x Arabian

With a name meaning life this beautiful boy definitely enjoys his second chance to life with an attitude fit for a king. He can be rather strict on his hierarchy in the herd, but with his rider he’s a real softy and is ridden completely bitless. He can be ridden by both novice and experienced riders and is guaranteed fun. Chayim, however, is a huge food fan, and will eat anything (and I mean anything!) that even just looks green enough for him to devour. When on his back, prepare yourself for takeaways left and right. This beautiful boy is at Woodifields and can’t wait to meet new riders whom he can take on the best adventures.

Savanna

Boerperd x

This beautiful dun mare is basically the perfect equivalent to the feeling Spirit (The original movie) leaves in our hearts. She is a real moody mare in the camp that prefers to play hard-to-get, but an absolute dream under the saddle. Savanna definitely has some spunk if you ask for it but can be just as slow and gentle with a beginner trusting her with an awesome first experience. Savanna is our newest recruit in the herd and she found herself a special place in our herd. She impresses us daily with a personality to die for and even though we are still working on some ground manners, we are sure she will fit in to our family just fine.

Gumby

Quarter horse x Boerperd (we think)

Gumby is a real-life horse teddy and absolutely loves cuddles and snuggles. He however hates anything that comes with a saddle and when on trails he turns into a grumpy old man that wants to do things his way or no way. His way is a nice and relaxed sleep walk and when asked for a faster pace he’ll oblige but with conditions of is own, like his head down to the ground or a proper stretch every now and again. He’s safe for any rider and does especially well with a slightly more stern yet loving hand on the reins. He chooses to follow instead of lead and prefers to stay in his comfort zone with another horse leading him into adventures.

Thornado

Six months after Midnight joined our team, she gave us one big surprise: a beautiful baby boy was born at Louvain. Thornado came into the world with a bang and is now learning the ways of herd life and what it means to be part of the Garden Route Horse Trails family. He’s an absolute stunner and though not planned, he’s very welcome and dearly loved by all. Welcome to the family beautiful boy, we’ll make sure you get to become the best at what you’ll love the most. Thornado is now a young colt and a beautiful gelding in the making; so if some of the others are a little mean to him in the group, they’re most propably just teaching him some herd manners;)

Waldo(currently on loan at a riding school for some extra training and tlc)

Fresian

With a name meant for a powerful ruler his exterior definitely matches his name, yet his personality is the kindest most gentle black beauty you can find. Waldo is our pride and joy for weddings and absolutely loves to show off his bouncy stride in the cart. Although he enjoys cart rides the most, we do use him on occasion for the trails, when the riders don’t mind going a bit slower than the others and promise to keep his hooves dry and clean. In the camp Waldo will usually be the first to greet guests , as he finds humans much better company than horses. Waldo finally found himself a lady friend, Honey, who taught him most of the necessary things of life in a herd and now he’s receiving some training for proper carriage and receiving much love from kids. This handsome boy loves to show off his Fresian blood with a slow trot and canter that only he can do. Perfect for beginner riders and definitely an experience to observe and see this boy in action.

Boerperd X and Arab X

These 2 are the legends of the farm and has had many adventures together on Woodifields. They are not used for our trails and are both enjoying life in retirement with the odd occasion of being ridden by the owners of the farm. These 2 love a good treat but are quite shy and prefer to only come to those they know or see has treats. Please don’t take it personal, it’s really not you but rather the size of your empty bag of treats that chases them away 😉

Percheron x Appaloosa x

This energetic girl has a big future to come and with mistress, ruler and beam of light as her name description; we are sure she is bound to live up to the expectations. She was born from Elzé and is now old enough and past her training and backing process. This bundle of joy has us guessing about which colour she wants to be so please don’t stress if she doesn’t look like the photos, looking like a horse model takes time 😉 With a rather cute, friendly and spunky personality and a thing for jumping from a young age, we’ve decided to let Kira have some fun in the showing and jumping arena before one day retiring her to a trail horse. Kira is being used at a riding school in George with kids and instructors that love her to bits and is definitely showing us what she can do with many prizes coming home. Watch this little mare shine and we wish her only the best at her new home.

Maximus (no longer with Garden Route Horse Trails and definitely enjoying his new life to the fullest)

Fresian x Boerperd

We absolutely love this beautiful boy to bits and because of this we had to let him go. Maximus is a stunning talented boy with lots of potential for DRASA and even dressage and the trail riding with many different riders just wasn’t his thing. He’s got so much love to give to his one special person and we won’t be holding him back from that. We loved him with all his personality on the trails, with his big lazy canter and trust me if i say this boy has left big hoofmarks in my heart but deep down we knew he would do so much better with a rider of his own. Max is currently living the best life with a very special lady in PE and is loving the one on one relationship, and with a herd of almost only mares, lover boy is in heaven and we can’t be happier for him! We love you lots my boy and just know your adventures have only just started.

Adopt one of our horses for an entire month, or longer if you would like to extend. Please note that adoption fees must be made at the beginning of the chosen month/s and are non refundable.

Adoption options with your trusty steed include(sessions of 2-3 hours depending on the owners daily schedule):

R750 = 2 sessions per month

R1500 = 4 sessions per month (once a week)

R2500 = 8 sessions per month (twice a week)

Adoption includes bonding, training, riding, lots of fun and exploring the farm with the horse you’ve chosen to “adopt”. We have all the required safety measures and lots of space on an active working farm. All we need from you is a minimal adoption fee and your love for horses.
